The Protected Cropping Podcast

Excitingly, we are 3 episodes into the Protected Cropping Podcast and it is really interesting. Each week on a Friday, I sit down with an industry expert to talk about key issues, ideas and the future of protected cropping. These episodes are targeted primarily at those interested in the protected cropping industry, and therefor has limited scope and scale, but it is a really great platform to discuss the state of current high intensity agriculture and the future of our food.

Currently my system is fairly rudimentary, but over the coming weeks and months my goal is to improve the production quality and professionalism of the offering.

The podcast is exciting and the conversations that are had are really important.

This week I sat down with Andrew McIlwain from Green Camel to discuss his production system. Green Camel incorperates organics with aquaculture to create a truely circular production system. We went through the nuances of the Australian organic system and how growers can tackle the transition into organics.

As somewhat of an organic sceptic, some of the techniques and tools utilised in these systems are fantastic and are becoming more popular in conventional production systems.

If you have any interest in protected cropping or organics at all this episode is a great listen (despite the technical issues).
